"Condition at the end of the 1st decade"
On the Bitterroot Mountain face overlooking the Valley, new road construction and timber harvest will not be readily visible because the size, shape, and distribution of cutting units will be matched to natural landscape patterns. Cutting will have occurred on about 10 percent of the suitable timberland or 3.5 percent of the land outside wilderness. including about 1,700 acres of shelter- wood cutting and 2,000 acres of clearcutting on currently roaded lands and 500 currently roadless acres. Up to 47 million board feet of timber will, have been removed and 30 miles of new road built.
